awesomeness!

January 19th, 2010

thought we’d share some awesome reviews the vs. mittens have on Uncommon Goods….so great to hear some awesome feedback from their customers:

“Purchased these mittens as a gift for a diehard knitter. She loved them, and within one day was already receiving numberous comments and compliments about her fun new mittens! Perfect gift item for just about anyone.”

“I LOVE my frog vs. fly mittens! It’s -26 degrees today, and I’ve been wearing these. They’re thick & keep my hands pretty warm. They’re also big enough that I could wear a small pair of gloves underneath. I am an adult with large hands, and these fit me fine. I think they would be too big for a child or adult with small hands. I’ve been wearing them nonstop for 10 days, and they seem like they’ll be durable. I get tons of comments & compliments on them.”

“I got these as a Hanukkah present from my mom and then bought them as a Christmas gift for a friend. I love them-and my friend does too! Lots of reviews on here say that the mittens are too large, but I don’t find that. True, they are roomy, but that does allow for puppet play. I’ve already gotten tons of comments on them…they’re a great conversation starter!”

“These gloves are a great conversation starter! They’re fun for kids or adults and will put a smile on the face or anyone who sees them.”

“I bought these for my two teenage granddaughters. They loved them and thought they were the “coolest” gloves they ever had. They made my day. Thanks so much for your innovative ideas.”

“my daughter loved them as her cutest christmas gift!”

“Gave this as a gift and my niece LOVED them. Her sister and mother sneak them away and wear them too. Big hit.”

this one is so great to hear –> “My friend teaches a special class in the LAUSD for kindergarten children with Autism. She was so happy with these gloves and instantly began to create a teaching game for the kids in her class!”

thanks so much, our dear hoopla supporters!!! in this economy we are so grateful to have so many people who share our vision for happy and fun products :-)

Totally Cool Valentine’s Day Gifts 2009

January 12th, 2009

Hey Hoopla Nation,

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Okay, it’s a little over a month away.

But that’s still pretty close.

Next thing you know, you’ll be running to your local CVS at 6:17 p.m. Valentine’s Night, looking for something, anything, to express ultimate love for your partner.

You’ll probably have to settle for a set of five Reeses’ peanut butter hearts and a bent plastic flower that doubles as a radio alarm clock, just because you procrastinated.

Good going…

Luckily, we can take you back in time to right now and make a change.

Hoopla has got your Valentine’s needs covered.

First up, My Punny Valentine, for one, two, or 15 of your closest friends, associates, and daytime love interests.

My Punny Valentines say, “I love you enough to want to see you laugh.”

And who doesn’t want to laugh? (Besides people who don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, of course.)

Conversely, if you’re looking to get a whole lot of bang for your buck (and who isn’t right now), may we suggest you dump the roses and get your sweetie a Forever Bouquet.

It looks amazing and it will never wilt, sort of a metaphor for the love between you and your partner, am I right?

Now, to get you in the Valentine’s Day spirit (and soundtrack your Hoopla shopping spree), we present a video profiling a different kind of love…with storks.

fun at the design hive market!

December 11th, 2008

on december 6th, hoopla had a table at the design hive market! it’s a new market for indie/awesome designers and product makers every saturday in cambridge, MA. it was our first show and it was uber fun! we met a lot of cool people and sold a lot of our products! most popular was the toilet seat cover. tied for second were the male pattern baldness mug and the forever bouquet. it was a really great experience and we are really excited to be in more design hives/more markets! we are looking to be in the NYIGF and other trade shows this spring, so it was a great introduction into the world of shows. it was so great to see everyone smile as they looked at our offerings. that’s what hoopla is about - making people happy as we make cool stuff!
here are some pics from the design hive:

Hello World!

December 3rd, 2008

now that our blog is up and ready to go (thanks sooo much adam!) we can provide updates on cool new happenings, products, events, or anything weird yet entertaining. in the spirit of welcoming winter (OK, maybe not welcoming but hey, it’s coming whether we want it or not) this blog will be about the joys of winter.

so now without any further adeiu, here is our top 10 good things about winter:

10. MUSIC APPRECIATION: i cannot think of one thing better than sitting inside of your house, turning out the lights, watching the snow, and playing good mood music. it’s very relaxing (i reccommend cat power or julie london and let it take you away. the summer is a good time to listen to music too, but it’s usually outside and interrupted by a bird pooping on you, or a noisy drunken barbecue next door. the winter provides lots of uninterruped alone time to be inside, watch the pretty snow fall, and create your own playlist of wonder and merriment.
9. CUTE SCARVES, HATS AND MITTENS: i actually was looking forward to the winter this year because of all my cool winter clothes. plus, it’s uber fun to be cozy. (i’d rather be really cold and bundle then really hot and sit on ice cubes, i think). i missed my fuzzy sweaters, my puffy coat, my large collection of gloves/mittens. for some reason, wearing them reminds me of my childhood, building igloos, blobs that kind of resembled snowmen, and snow benches. which brings me to……
8. HOT COCOA: mmmmmmm. especially with the little dehydrated marshmallows. what is better than coming in on an overcast depressing day and making yourself a quick, delicious hot cocoa? and if you like hot cocoa and balding men, you might be interested in our Male Pattern Baldness mug on your next snowy cold day!
7. AUTO SEAT BUTT WARMERS: how did anybody survive without these? it’s mind boggling how one would be able to sit in a -5 degree car (especially with leather seats) and have nothing to warm you. alas, mr. butt warmer came and invented one of the best inventions in history. you can pick the level of butt warming, and then turn it off when your bottom starts to burn.
6. WINTER SPORTS: sledding is super fun, as well as skiing/snowboarding. ice skating is fun as long as you have your own skates - i have come to find that skating sucks when you rent, because the person working is really quite lazy and you get unsharpened skates. which makes you hobble along the rink and fumble around in the way of everyone else. you know, i took figure skating as a kid and i was always realy jealous of how cool the hockey skates looked. regular ice skates (figure skates) were so dinky and dorky looking!
5. SNOWBALL FIGHTS: who doesn’t like socking someone in the face with a snowball?
4. SNOW SCULPTURES: you can create original (and if you want, offensive) sculptures in the snow. i once made a phallic symbol in my front yard with my sister until my mom MADE me take it down. make a bird! make a doggie! make a drive through ATM machine! whatever
3. LAWN DECORATIONS: i love to people watch. and more importantly around the holidays- lawn watch. growing up in great neck NY, there wasn’t a heck of a lot of christmas decorating around town, because it’s about 75% jewish. lucky for me, my grandparents lived in a more mixed area so i got to see all the crazy decorations everytime we visited. people are insane! giant blow up gingerbread houses, almost the size of real houses, with fans built into them to keep them at full mast all day and night long. whatttt??  i loved when a decoration went horribly wrong (like a deflated reindeer or santa fell off the roof and lay there). it was also fun to see things written in christmas lights in the windows, and then certain lights would go out to create new words.
2. HOLIDAY PARTIES: what better excuse to party with friends in fancy suits and dresses than the holidays? for my last holiday party, it had just snowed so i created a beer garden. and it was AWESOME. want to know how to do this?… by your backyard door, or wherever you have a suitable space… shovel out an area big enough for the smokers to stand in. then, shovel a pathway from that space around the backyard, but not too long. then, place beers/alcohol alongside the path, in the snow banks you created. and finally, line the snow bank with little tea candles or lanterns to light it. a great holiday party idea and it also keeps drunks out of your fridge!
1. HOLIDAY PRESENTS: gifts! the reason why these days the holidays have almost no religious or cultural value. it’s not so much about the birth of baby jesus, or the miracle of the oil lasting 8 days… now it’s all about santa and presents! or latke larry. wahoo! but anyway, giving gifts to the people we love most in the world is the best part of winter and the holidays hands down. so this year, give awesome, fun gifts, make each other smile, and enjoying the funner things in life!
and that is all for now. happy almost winter!

love
,
